But I can't figure out why those horrible white lines keep showing up! Next time I'll make sure to use my camera!<br />

<br />
Here they are all blank and ready to be painted! I taped off their hair to make sure nothing gets in it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I did white on Howleen to make some highlights, since Catrine is already white she doesn't need that!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I used a bubblegum pink color to make her look very 'made up', her pink hair is so bright I wanted to come up with something bright and bubbly to go with it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1YIEpbnlxx8bfXd76MFGdwUBx5FjzRTQu5RgmBfiAZTpaKVmF65_4b0KkGJXvWicy19grAaYzdUYM5rbdgJ4geM5dhx0ZOiD9MVCoSRpGvfnytxt-QNvUPlYJSqpQ_PazetKxFmor7z4/s1600/20130618_130440-1033648491.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1YIEpbnlxx8bfXd76MFGdwUBx5FjzRTQu5RgmBfiAZTpaKVmF65_4b0KkGJXvWicy19grAaYzdUYM5rbdgJ4geM5dhx0ZOiD9MVCoSRpGvfnytxt-QNvUPlYJSqpQ_PazetKxFmor7z4/s320/20130618_130440-1033648491.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's the first layer of the whites of her eyes, it needs to dry a little before I can do another layer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxP0pvwxc1wzGtS8TMehR84GdQNPrE7EVQfOgGS7PCkU3Nr6uqYuk1xdy0NLiTysL4i1twFOc8PUlur7lVbn431YuBqDLbB-a5glPbscIfZ-sMGUSGV6LRdOaq8hnXlppVjPTyr4rR50I/s1600/20130618_130842519259085.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxP0pvwxc1wzGtS8TMehR84GdQNPrE7EVQfOgGS7PCkU3Nr6uqYuk1xdy0NLiTysL4i1twFOc8PUlur7lVbn431YuBqDLbB-a5glPbscIfZ-sMGUSGV6LRdOaq8hnXlppVjPTyr4rR50I/s320/20130618_130842519259085.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
While Howleen's eyes are drying I used a purple to do some shading on Catrine. Since she's already white, I do a little more shading than I normally would. With the darker dolls I can use white and dark colors to contour, but since she's already white I can only use darker colors.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrTFfq8TX_EYWM8nmJBv7w3h4wHKWTtRX0ooGlYUuuyPJlpIP373Hl-1bZ7fpIfs3otlmVRFxz4F0D9ApfHimxSblOPOfSwOkkJkvv-EQyAqs6SFmiaBa6KxPfcU55-Un0lYMdgz1WNG0/s1600/20130618_1310541472080056.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrTFfq8TX_EYWM8nmJBv7w3h4wHKWTtRX0ooGlYUuuyPJlpIP373Hl-1bZ7fpIfs3otlmVRFxz4F0D9ApfHimxSblOPOfSwOkkJkvv-EQyAqs6SFmiaBa6KxPfcU55-Un0lYMdgz1WNG0/s320/20130618_1310541472080056.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a more blue purple in a few spots, so she won't look too monochrome.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzDeo0CYbJ4qqhmCGT35HjR96Exv-aDWNB08OB_SjTGPBFyUMeYt0dsh41lNpkvO2KTdfLxhFDwlqwRLZyVeAF-ROQwDqP1bW1mXA0cOWmvyj9DTJfAqsVv8oT3XEd_yVOUvJFfOs7ECg/s1600/20130618_131620-1772249647.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzDeo0CYbJ4qqhmCGT35HjR96Exv-aDWNB08OB_SjTGPBFyUMeYt0dsh41lNpkvO2KTdfLxhFDwlqwRLZyVeAF-ROQwDqP1bW1mXA0cOWmvyj9DTJfAqsVv8oT3XEd_yVOUvJFfOs7ECg/s320/20130618_131620-1772249647.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
One layer of white eyes on Catrine, and two layers on Howeleen.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG1iFUI2zXWTK_i08HUQ04SESRzfN2V9tfcM3rqGv7tIGwqkhUHuQDVwuJiNbnPE_FNthk2-t2gJKVsuCbnEPsJGa-F7QXzVpfkh1JbIS8jEEvQjV0wbCqgR1oY-4fCU6dU_oBW-u1mgw/s1600/20130618_132221906757250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG1iFUI2zXWTK_i08HUQ04SESRzfN2V9tfcM3rqGv7tIGwqkhUHuQDVwuJiNbnPE_FNthk2-t2gJKVsuCbnEPsJGa-F7QXzVpfkh1JbIS8jEEvQjV0wbCqgR1oY-4fCU6dU_oBW-u1mgw/s320/20130618_132221906757250.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I did pink eyeliner at first on Howleen.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzh1U4oxOj5HWE_rbxrzGb6kBDMJd3Y3s_vSNRKb1jH78wjfW7e8bdrkByttYEzK-UQxB_mUd0-UAPsyjhstHqwSW5Qb1Xq7oYXmMTwMEFJruOS9FB-xuL25EjuzH1NnTN6qsLUm86wgk/s1600/20130618_133407-1804926413.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzh1U4oxOj5HWE_rbxrzGb6kBDMJd3Y3s_vSNRKb1jH78wjfW7e8bdrkByttYEzK-UQxB_mUd0-UAPsyjhstHqwSW5Qb1Xq7oYXmMTwMEFJruOS9FB-xuL25EjuzH1NnTN6qsLUm86wgk/s320/20130618_133407-1804926413.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
But It wasn't giving me enough contrast, so I added black eyeliner on the top of the eye, and used it to blend down into the eye too.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpfq9v82TUqvVjk9A9SENn8IxFnM7DiBMyovgZ6N3NpmJ9_z1A_j6ZpvNHq30uuXl-XaDXMd_C9_j2Mxvd4UmCjlX4xhWTCThugnYVUtG3OfoqmvaCRFSNoZ_vxHmxADmP5de9qQDvbX4/s1600/20130618_133951836369566.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpfq9v82TUqvVjk9A9SENn8IxFnM7DiBMyovgZ6N3NpmJ9_z1A_j6ZpvNHq30uuXl-XaDXMd_C9_j2Mxvd4UmCjlX4xhWTCThugnYVUtG3OfoqmvaCRFSNoZ_vxHmxADmP5de9qQDvbX4/s320/20130618_133951836369566.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

More work on the eyes! I'll post again in the next few days once I'm able to finish them!<br />

<br />
<span id="goog_964807223"></span><span id="goog_964807224"></span>Ack, it's been a while since I've posted! Unfortunately this year has been a little rough on me, I lost both of my dogs so motivation has been a little low for me :( I still get things done, but it's usually the bare minimum, so I'm working on getting back up there though!<br />
<br />
A while ago I got interested in cut paper art (I don't know if there's a more elegant term for that?), and was interested in making some pieces that way. The trouble is that I have a bit of tendonitis trouble, so working with the exacto blade to cut that paper was painful and difficult. Because of that I had difficulty getting smooth lines, and overall just wasn't happy with the finished product.<br />
<br />
I was surfing on Joann's website when one of their sales pages pointed me to some discounted Cricut die cut machines. I'd heard of them since I have a friend whose mother buys her all kinds of things from QVC, but never seen one in person. It got me interested in the idea of being able to use the machine to get perfect curves out of cut paper, as well as being able to produce multiples!<br />
<br />
I did a lot of research into it, and although Cricut seems to be the most heavily advertised (as well as offering some of the most reasonably prices machines) they also had the most stringent rules about printing. It was a real disappointment to learn that you really can only print using their images which are expensive to purchase. Since I wanted to use it for my own images, it seemed like it just wasn't going to work, since any savings that I would get buying a cheaper Cricut machine would be lost in me buying expensive 'bootleg' software (which Cricut fights to keep off the market). <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Y9wwth6VdPt9bSulCRpZmasJLZQ7vK4kEbQk8lkgu30XCm0TMmhyCOI4oth8RhBGYqwHDvNBa1I-2A0sFaiXZs6d7Dm6AF_GqyuQui2K1ttEFNA5C8e3HM7vu5-0E7vZCMzQ4XMENPM/s1600/IMG_4305s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Y9wwth6VdPt9bSulCRpZmasJLZQ7vK4kEbQk8lkgu30XCm0TMmhyCOI4oth8RhBGYqwHDvNBa1I-2A0sFaiXZs6d7Dm6AF_GqyuQui2K1ttEFNA5C8e3HM7vu5-0E7vZCMzQ4XMENPM/s320/IMG_4305s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I ended up choosing the Silhouette Portrait. It's their lower end model, their higher end one being the Silhouette Cameo. I bought it for $160 from Amazon and it comes with the machine, one blade, one cutting mat and Silhouette's software; Silhouette Studio. Their software allows you to easily upload your own images and make your own cuts, just what I was looking for!<br />
<br />

<br />
It looks a lot like a regular printer on the inside, but instead of ink it's a blade!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKcxprUUOl7U4zw7ad7X_OcjA5q4uxmf5ViozK6X-IPAuB3JwREK9smw2ALiOZJXp7HZ37R7E9FZWsqoYwAYMa6XNVsRpE3aHCcGzdaEHc-3lLwVn_c7QpEmsRd8DAnXIkr0qpc4TCuBk/s1600/IMG_4308s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKcxprUUOl7U4zw7ad7X_OcjA5q4uxmf5ViozK6X-IPAuB3JwREK9smw2ALiOZJXp7HZ37R7E9FZWsqoYwAYMa6XNVsRpE3aHCcGzdaEHc-3lLwVn_c7QpEmsRd8DAnXIkr0qpc4TCuBk/s320/IMG_4308s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I couldn't find much information online about how small it can cut, but it's actually incredibly detailed! It can go down to about 1mm in my experience. This was a little test piece using one of the free designs Silhouette provides. I was a little surprised that they sell designs for 50 cents a piece, but if you want to use them in anything for sale they start at $8. Not a problem since I wasn't going to use their designs anyways, but I guess I wasn't expecting it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It's a little hard to see, but this is a page after it's cut. It's still stuck to the sticky cutting mat. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfKAid_KW-dSooW3zV0MheQvH1xJbEm38aEtgorUuQjCbo8As_qa_INd5Ozx33FYATrLWz1F31w_MrOhKGmLa56xRh7vQ78AyHTGsXi5z4diZtC2QWmne381OMbnSth2QKeyFHas1NgNE/s1600/IMG_4297s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfKAid_KW-dSooW3zV0MheQvH1xJbEm38aEtgorUuQjCbo8As_qa_INd5Ozx33FYATrLWz1F31w_MrOhKGmLa56xRh7vQ78AyHTGsXi5z4diZtC2QWmne381OMbnSth2QKeyFHas1NgNE/s320/IMG_4297s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I usually peel off the outside waste paper first, and I got this little Cricut spatula to help peel off paper. You can't really grab one end and peel it off or it comes off curly (try it on the waste outlines first, see what happens), so you have to kind of carefully unstick it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh66YUlwaljDV4A_XkZPcSVywYSxvt3kdRDbXELyQbo9DB7ME0CUOBZ7bqSUIi5UWm6Ihl1cztpglTZVBgoMdrup3kzjx6cW90bDt-zSwxDCx-Wx_ktqKNFL1V0KDTF8Xh3ol7exd4fM1U/s1600/IMG_4301s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh66YUlwaljDV4A_XkZPcSVywYSxvt3kdRDbXELyQbo9DB7ME0CUOBZ7bqSUIi5UWm6Ihl1cztpglTZVBgoMdrup3kzjx6cW90bDt-zSwxDCx-Wx_ktqKNFL1V0KDTF8Xh3ol7exd4fM1U/s320/IMG_4301s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I just stick the edge under and shimmy it down to the end. The mat is really sticky, and unfortunately some of the stickiness comes off too :( It gets goo on the spatula, and a little on the back of the paper too so the pieces have a little stick on the back too. So definitely stick paper to the mat back side down, or your front side will end up with goo. <br />

All the pieces for a bench! This is enough for two benches, so as not to waste too much paper I designed a page to hold two bench parts. I designed the page layout in Photoshop first, since Silhouette Studio has very limited tools for creating shapes, not to mention not capability for layers (at least not that I could find). So I figured out the page size I'll be using, opened a file in Photoshop that size, and moved all the pieces around on separate layers until they fit. Then I opened it in Silhouette Studio and set up the cut outline, then printed out the page, and sent it through the Portrait!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2yl2feUCtfv9RtAboS7vJW2IbBl1VuBA-cBZ-8zJEJXxzZJIUCtu-pa2hCaCJM6VxcQw79opttvCfnInaH5BfPNuN8F42Em_8NEDas-dEPpZh7XA-XOhqjeaoIwG7JFE-uBxU2C5FAgA/s1600/IMG_4304s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2yl2feUCtfv9RtAboS7vJW2IbBl1VuBA-cBZ-8zJEJXxzZJIUCtu-pa2hCaCJM6VxcQw79opttvCfnInaH5BfPNuN8F42Em_8NEDas-dEPpZh7XA-XOhqjeaoIwG7JFE-uBxU2C5FAgA/s320/IMG_4304s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To make sure that everything ends up in the right place I printed out a page with a silhouette of the drawing. This way everything will end up where it's supposed to go! Since this one has a ton of little pieces that need to fit together perfectly it's important I get them all together right, or else nothing will fit right. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitkAFbZkunyyfmzhCBf7-ZbRJYKT9zoH9sBqPC352h3DZo7JuXQeazoL1iieJ78tDFxfvIjbtxzNDAZFiXiYPMdLe2-abvP_uce-2EDFo6pwBq-bE01UuuR2KfE_3SyOtBLvMRTWQabgs/s1600/IMG_4318s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitkAFbZkunyyfmzhCBf7-ZbRJYKT9zoH9sBqPC352h3DZo7JuXQeazoL1iieJ78tDFxfvIjbtxzNDAZFiXiYPMdLe2-abvP_uce-2EDFo6pwBq-bE01UuuR2KfE_3SyOtBLvMRTWQabgs/s320/IMG_4318s.jpg" width="293" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I glue all the pieces to the printer paper and just cut off the backing with an exacto knife. Since I use thicker paper for the cut out shapes it's easy to just cut through the thin printer paper with a sharp knife and leave the cut out!<br />
<br />
Since this is all automated I'm able to recreate each image over and over without having to labor over each one with hand cutting! :)<br />

I threw another one together today with the leftover materials from the first one :)<br />
<br />
I don't specify how I made the wefts in the tutorial, but it's basically the same way as <a href="http://taeliac.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Weft-Supplement-115625008" target="_blank">this</a>, the only difference is that I sew them onto tracing paper and tear them off instead of tulle.<br />
<br />
I used some cheap braiding hair because I needed six different colors, but only a little bit of each color, so I wanted to save some money. You can buy it for<a href="http://www.doctoredlocks.com/product/Silky-Straight-Kanekalon-Braid-Products" target="_blank"> $3.55 a pack</a> at Doctored Locks, they have a low price guarantee and a huge selection of colors, so I like buying from them :) Or if you have some more money to burn feel free to buy wefts pre made somewhere like<a href="http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptlist.phtml?Category=185091" target="_blank"> Cool Cat</a>, they have a huge selection of doll hair wefts. If you're looking to just make a junky practice wig I recommend buying a cheap weave from a beauty supply store in your area, they come as cheap as $8 in my experience, and are good if you don't want to waste money on more expensive hair just for practice!<br />
<br />
On to the tutorial!<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieiDmiqGkx99ImFluaukMuBIQz8yrTV8z-Sl2XMj74oQ-RM1JFYrFe9f5UXK8FInogUvn1SdSnpCD7D2q9603A5KkuWyZunzVL6g7TzhKWjRx7eQffccVHDXXdxVMfoo9F1xgPMeBw-YA/s1600/IMG_3980s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="189" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieiDmiqGkx99ImFluaukMuBIQz8yrTV8z-Sl2XMj74oQ-RM1JFYrFe9f5UXK8FInogUvn1SdSnpCD7D2q9603A5KkuWyZunzVL6g7TzhKWjRx7eQffccVHDXXdxVMfoo9F1xgPMeBw-YA/s320/IMG_3980s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Supplies you'll need:<br />
-Scissors, sharp enough to cut hair<br />
-Hair wefts<br />
-Plastic bag<br />
-Stretchy, thin fabric for the wig cap<br />
-Brush or comb, to deal with the hair<br />
-Hot glue gun (not shown)<br />
-Needle and thread, or sewing machine (not shown)<br />
<br />
See the rest after the cut!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji73JsBl6im9q49BUf_UbijoLybFfT9UorXeDwQgYojCMOVaj90N7KLf4DN1rtb-SDDk95U9HnXhoeAsCPRFaDsNTiOQ5Ic0ERnzg2bKo7P_qAzvIRPGADHvNLGlJ02BSn55P_Ddkag_0/s1600/IMG_3981s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji73JsBl6im9q49BUf_UbijoLybFfT9UorXeDwQgYojCMOVaj90N7KLf4DN1rtb-SDDk95U9HnXhoeAsCPRFaDsNTiOQ5Ic0ERnzg2bKo7P_qAzvIRPGADHvNLGlJ02BSn55P_Ddkag_0/s320/IMG_3981s.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Please make sure to cover your doll first! You don't want to damage it at all or get little snips of hair everywhere. You can cover the entire doll with a big bag, or just the head, it's up to you.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTEJqFLfgVg-l_C-RlWagOsotrF5rvhPwt6PpBCue8f_vtl_SytOO0Gw20ReSXq1A_g7rMRP2qhFaGzzG59Thqef23IkhAebB5UHdNVsVHeXKnaUgUBgEDX51ZggiXcivR3Ka-PMHVvDA/s1600/IMG_3983s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTEJqFLfgVg-l_C-RlWagOsotrF5rvhPwt6PpBCue8f_vtl_SytOO0Gw20ReSXq1A_g7rMRP2qhFaGzzG59Thqef23IkhAebB5UHdNVsVHeXKnaUgUBgEDX51ZggiXcivR3Ka-PMHVvDA/s320/IMG_3983s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Cut a half circle out of your fabric. I used some ribbed jersey fabric that I got in the bargain bin at a fabric store, it works nicely and hot glue sticks to it well. It has some good stretch and is thin enough not to add bulk to the wig. There are only two measurements you need to keep in mind when cutting: circumference of the head, and the distance from the top of the ear to the middle of the top of the head. Those two measurements effect how long the flat side is, and how high the hump you cut is. (I hope that makes sense?)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsEN5cE2thbkcRNrrE6-zicYEUYqrEDiMV0OqPRYdfnOv42DONzv0Jn4XyB0QQLGp5QDZk0728UMtFK9jtx3ewK7i9rZNC9aRzXPeHnDv-cRj5PJlF2lfm96Kl4jC5-7nND-TmEaiFtF4/s1600/IMG_3984s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsEN5cE2thbkcRNrrE6-zicYEUYqrEDiMV0OqPRYdfnOv42DONzv0Jn4XyB0QQLGp5QDZk0728UMtFK9jtx3ewK7i9rZNC9aRzXPeHnDv-cRj5PJlF2lfm96Kl4jC5-7nND-TmEaiFtF4/s320/IMG_3984s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew the two pieces together, I used a machine but there's no reason you can't do it by hand!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIf1mGCn65YippTMwLdc5jG704CDMPoifXlVqmT4CThXGfv1Kx5NGoq0mCi7HYQRYb58nVIbsR27gyjNj6t41_tfrjLruY-jY5wXG17lR_-qwycqUJdwNNCJh2-NfBGIDwyaXsJnRPxOE/s1600/IMG_3985s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIf1mGCn65YippTMwLdc5jG704CDMPoifXlVqmT4CThXGfv1Kx5NGoq0mCi7HYQRYb58nVIbsR27gyjNj6t41_tfrjLruY-jY5wXG17lR_-qwycqUJdwNNCJh2-NfBGIDwyaXsJnRPxOE/s320/IMG_3985s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Check the fit on the head. You want it snug enough to fit tightly, but not so tight that it wants to slide off the head. If it's a little bit off it's ok, the whole thing is going to get covered in hair anyways :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB7hhwVlGa0DAG9uF9_TP-gK8wttaHfnJ3n4Q0qBfuk7DRIk9iED4TSfH1qR8RpbMjtvw8RXetuX5OQ0ul-sM2q2ubutNmMFnJtv8HsVFqlWxjYcggYoXWbZbqsMPaviFKc77iFJy2zXA/s1600/IMG_3988s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB7hhwVlGa0DAG9uF9_TP-gK8wttaHfnJ3n4Q0qBfuk7DRIk9iED4TSfH1qR8RpbMjtvw8RXetuX5OQ0ul-sM2q2ubutNmMFnJtv8HsVFqlWxjYcggYoXWbZbqsMPaviFKc77iFJy2zXA/s320/IMG_3988s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I just use a cheap low head hot glue gun, it works great! Let it heat up and get ready to apply some wefts. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdJwHb-VjYPZvRxbYzP3K4ZMuO2GysnU0nLAI4w5paSfm-cfkHzzx5mr1EgNzfeI9WFom-IKgbMHYEoDwBms_mdgr45qWu9WJqWxO2LpJt9VCjtKCSW2NNs52072k1LCoyDbSfegNFNsA/s1600/IMG_3989s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdJwHb-VjYPZvRxbYzP3K4ZMuO2GysnU0nLAI4w5paSfm-cfkHzzx5mr1EgNzfeI9WFom-IKgbMHYEoDwBms_mdgr45qWu9WJqWxO2LpJt9VCjtKCSW2NNs52072k1LCoyDbSfegNFNsA/s320/IMG_3989s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Start in the back, since this is where the ends of the wefts will meet, it shouldn't end up too messy, but you still don't want it to show in the front.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeFOd-3UE91yEp-kgllhNHNzcaELp4WOGO00Ciu8jK0eOnhbvRuXxyn-OueyJfH18hA7-ZTujO7xQlo-u8q5R4vCFs3TMw5-v_pJiQIrxFnlkIMD_OHMNs0hABHZ6SUwapNdGUQPQMoRs/s1600/IMG_3990s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeFOd-3UE91yEp-kgllhNHNzcaELp4WOGO00Ciu8jK0eOnhbvRuXxyn-OueyJfH18hA7-ZTujO7xQlo-u8q5R4vCFs3TMw5-v_pJiQIrxFnlkIMD_OHMNs0hABHZ6SUwapNdGUQPQMoRs/s320/IMG_3990s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Just start with a little dot of glue to attach the first end of the weft. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ2M5Uv38XDHUDfFqKvCKln62UAseG93pbtW0e0lum0N1HGuEpf6sYGzL_GNaOSgyb99PM8C6TbIB2iRwPVP43rL_342-zp1Z1F8FS-fAI53tiLICtoNGYq4krU9Za9dLXMt5NrcPO8dM/s1600/IMG_3991s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ2M5Uv38XDHUDfFqKvCKln62UAseG93pbtW0e0lum0N1HGuEpf6sYGzL_GNaOSgyb99PM8C6TbIB2iRwPVP43rL_342-zp1Z1F8FS-fAI53tiLICtoNGYq4krU9Za9dLXMt5NrcPO8dM/s320/IMG_3991s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Once one end is attached start working your way around the edges. I work it around an inch at a time so the glue doesn't cool before I have a chance to attach the hair. I gently press the hair into the glue with my fingers until I can feel it squeeze through the hair. You don't need a whole lot of glue for this, just enough to make sure it's secure! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEDrH-4uFa50lbtaXk-z0ar-4rxvohherluITi4jBVfkAP83CFfLY5a3ncckq2dXG6ajQ2JW7ZFXdk4e3NnHQZRSQxDWaFHCHHfihvckbnw4Fe_U6v1B95f_i9y05RR88YOA6utks5de4/s1600/IMG_3993s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEDrH-4uFa50lbtaXk-z0ar-4rxvohherluITi4jBVfkAP83CFfLY5a3ncckq2dXG6ajQ2JW7ZFXdk4e3NnHQZRSQxDWaFHCHHfihvckbnw4Fe_U6v1B95f_i9y05RR88YOA6utks5de4/s320/IMG_3993s.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's how it looks once the first ring of hair is attached! The whole doll is going to be covered up as you add hair, so say goodbye to their face for a while. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHuMVsw37a0nJUK3ToEaKApbN9Op8ij5WuI7mfP7zPxFNlgLnSiEvIGBXeDgWqVNyx43MV9zEzXS8BZfM6mAnqYnyuZRqp7sfrgYO8v1l2iQxYrvDZM7kACf2drGhbg1eTPYkXlvBbrA0/s1600/IMG_3994s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHuMVsw37a0nJUK3ToEaKApbN9Op8ij5WuI7mfP7zPxFNlgLnSiEvIGBXeDgWqVNyx43MV9zEzXS8BZfM6mAnqYnyuZRqp7sfrgYO8v1l2iQxYrvDZM7kACf2drGhbg1eTPYkXlvBbrA0/s320/IMG_3994s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since you want the part of the hair to end at the top of the head, not the center of the wig cap, you have to add some extra wefts to the back. Just add one row around the back, starting from above one ear and around to the other. Only do this on the back side of the head! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlHnyw1XnlwuIf6viH4UrevHLMPNMSWMNdSj-eekz6dXe0NuIeN7UO6P1hxTiR5H95naQjTcVFru9sm0ill62DxSDxJVo3KMb3ayNKGw-01JNlyjhcsk_F0-zac_WEAnXncFDtoR7Tdz4/s1600/IMG_3998s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlHnyw1XnlwuIf6viH4UrevHLMPNMSWMNdSj-eekz6dXe0NuIeN7UO6P1hxTiR5H95naQjTcVFru9sm0ill62DxSDxJVo3KMb3ayNKGw-01JNlyjhcsk_F0-zac_WEAnXncFDtoR7Tdz4/s320/IMG_3998s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Purple all the way around! For the rainbow effect I change colors with every ring. With six colors it ends up just about perfect! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSwHaLFlLlvJ8z3xyKqvVbWKdFjTXsLmB9rQSmlSoAR2q5fIDqHxZFIjnMwTfm5TmfbrJLsBsryppqFOdhA-NbpT83R3WNVGHiGND9A36mJfsnbh7ixV2qHZkWkCQMuLnwvAy-lVs4z50/s1600/IMG_3999s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSwHaLFlLlvJ8z3xyKqvVbWKdFjTXsLmB9rQSmlSoAR2q5fIDqHxZFIjnMwTfm5TmfbrJLsBsryppqFOdhA-NbpT83R3WNVGHiGND9A36mJfsnbh7ixV2qHZkWkCQMuLnwvAy-lVs4z50/s320/IMG_3999s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I put one extra row in the back between every ring. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOrhFgDt_x8Ey9uyoO0tQ7dePfcdGSoaqmyY4sBCKbBT4muuUMXtk_Cewb5UjN4tKXJuaacre_SY3My9GYpDlIoA3W22V4P0RwSuz_LHJ6Jd1utYhsGhRO8Mrou6pi-xCqgS7K7HTW-8g/s1600/IMG_4001s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOrhFgDt_x8Ey9uyoO0tQ7dePfcdGSoaqmyY4sBCKbBT4muuUMXtk_Cewb5UjN4tKXJuaacre_SY3My9GYpDlIoA3W22V4P0RwSuz_LHJ6Jd1utYhsGhRO8Mrou6pi-xCqgS7K7HTW-8g/s320/IMG_4001s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Blue! So that you can keep your bearings on where the part should end up poke at the doll's face and feel for their nose. It will give you an idea of where the part needs to be on the head. <br />
<br />

Working my way up to the top! Every ring gets a little smaller. <br />

<br />
In a lapse of my better judgement I used yellow for the top color. Darker hair colors cover better, and since I was lazy I made all my wefts with black thread. Because of this the thread is just slightly visible underneath the hair on top. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjog617p5T6ME8PJqEtQW1z8Qv8cFr698HPQ8ZkiuNJs_S49kfHMpMeXI9pM6G65iJrhR9b_Sw43QQ7grBDQoHMraG7xMI9o-O8UtjmMFtADP9sPZlXCUCu9uSUM5DOAvHmbv29Fwh6p_g/s1600/IMG_4004s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjog617p5T6ME8PJqEtQW1z8Qv8cFr698HPQ8ZkiuNJs_S49kfHMpMeXI9pM6G65iJrhR9b_Sw43QQ7grBDQoHMraG7xMI9o-O8UtjmMFtADP9sPZlXCUCu9uSUM5DOAvHmbv29Fwh6p_g/s320/IMG_4004s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I did two rings of yellow, to close up the remaining space and to make sure there was enough yellow. Since the rings are so small they use less weft and less hair. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGyyZNcORar4UYScxkxwHhSh20Aw3PCCaiFrP0KSkpk4uZeBrTj-TfanO-FMMHBiE8X1X2ObqROnLKzUttYdO1OBDJRIqO1eCDTwA8yAy62_y4upkSO0fnBXRs7JoAj2qBgbkCOoKTlj4/s1600/IMG_4005s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGyyZNcORar4UYScxkxwHhSh20Aw3PCCaiFrP0KSkpk4uZeBrTj-TfanO-FMMHBiE8X1X2ObqROnLKzUttYdO1OBDJRIqO1eCDTwA8yAy62_y4upkSO0fnBXRs7JoAj2qBgbkCOoKTlj4/s320/IMG_4005s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To finish up take a few inches of your top color weft and the glue gun.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWJbkNx0YNTZXIGHkb73OZ94cYoMi4Ij-1AecA37uKTKBPgjEFvyOj935FAbG_DqgtB3HyUF0vDDb4qS-l3HOS6nVv8HAqANeeadFa9TwJklc8a5CmKeB0dAuMKFTMrf8tRyTseA1S7Oo/s1600/IMG_4006s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWJbkNx0YNTZXIGHkb73OZ94cYoMi4Ij-1AecA37uKTKBPgjEFvyOj935FAbG_DqgtB3HyUF0vDDb4qS-l3HOS6nVv8HAqANeeadFa9TwJklc8a5CmKeB0dAuMKFTMrf8tRyTseA1S7Oo/s320/IMG_4006s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The point is to roll the weft up into a little spiral, using glue to keep it rolled up.<br />

Set your iron to low, I used the 'synthetic' setting. You don't want it too hot or you'll melt the hair or damage your doll. <br />

Gently press the iron over the top of the head. You should hear a little 'sizzle' and see some steam, if the sizzling stops then move the iron around until you've pressed all around the top of the head. <br />

I don't know the first thing about hairdressing, so all I can say is go slow if you're worried! Only cut off a little bit at a time, and cut upwards. Blunt cuts look bad, so try to avoid them. <br />

All trimmed up with bangs! The rainbow effect is pretty apparent, but you can also try cutting 'layers' to accentuate the different colors. All this means is that the longest hairs are the ones on the bottom ring (for this wig, red), and work your way up until the shortest would be at the top (yellow). If you try cutting it that way it's easy to see every single color!<br />

I've never picked it up from the stores because of the lack of features, but it was interesting to paint :) The customer had the head on a skeleton body and asked for dark and skeleton like!<br />

<br />
White highlights, especially important with suck a smooth head. <br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Some subtle yellow blush on the cheeks and above the eyes. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Black around the eyes, since it's going to be black sclera (to look like a skull with eye holes instead of eyes). <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-SM4BWi8PMJpi-ghWBezA8JkxK1mZ-LGrYadeUTvQcLI7iF6cSdmPYwSWNvoK6eC1eB2DYaYrt08uAjXOqdbATjxiZCW5S3l2wO3eeOTjZ3WwX5K60PyN1C9OcdZL1Et0WnsUBGFsnCs/s1600/IMG_3604s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-SM4BWi8PMJpi-ghWBezA8JkxK1mZ-LGrYadeUTvQcLI7iF6cSdmPYwSWNvoK6eC1eB2DYaYrt08uAjXOqdbATjxiZCW5S3l2wO3eeOTjZ3WwX5K60PyN1C9OcdZL1Et0WnsUBGFsnCs/s320/IMG_3604s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used some pastels to give the black a sharper edge, making it look more like blank sockets. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1IMbX0ZqXfiw8KzAJwvHY4XD8M8yRBZ9ZWhGoO7VJ0hjlgPGIkolJE_2OaBZLnFBcuWzyYo6SmWXKZecWYkmWTUOgOMWIj16VE4sn2eEq9IVSMXJA2VW6Nj11-4-wyqOCzpRc95nnDPE/s1600/IMG_3605s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1IMbX0ZqXfiw8KzAJwvHY4XD8M8yRBZ9ZWhGoO7VJ0hjlgPGIkolJE_2OaBZLnFBcuWzyYo6SmWXKZecWYkmWTUOgOMWIj16VE4sn2eEq9IVSMXJA2VW6Nj11-4-wyqOCzpRc95nnDPE/s320/IMG_3605s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This head has no lips so they have to be painted on, a little difficult to make them look not flat? I did it with pastels and added some paint detail after. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheTwdFmB0kWT80QK5pY5HNdy_6XGNeqHfqrpKzvvwYQS8tQh1jbwDfsCicILPQxc2wm4HqOvA9RWss6fmLFKVl499jTB4CFWHbMu46WFpf9fPu1CIbs5R6C90ij4bGMSL8IGEhKB_5Evw/s1600/IMG_3606s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheTwdFmB0kWT80QK5pY5HNdy_6XGNeqHfqrpKzvvwYQS8tQh1jbwDfsCicILPQxc2wm4HqOvA9RWss6fmLFKVl499jTB4CFWHbMu46WFpf9fPu1CIbs5R6C90ij4bGMSL8IGEhKB_5Evw/s320/IMG_3606s.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
I started just painting white outlines where I wanted shading (the pupil and iris on the left) and slowly worked on blending it into the black. In some ways doing white on black is easier, and in others much harder! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuLohl-h-8BTe9dRys60b2nN6syeMBFOpDTzOp-gnlG0BDi8EMFne7cYw_bdEyQnhuAIOKE-GRuzKxs78zYdxO5xfTqGnaYzVBgjWLgexZWFTL6OEnn3TQnQeEVaWzuK-p4zYjQSIwxPQ/s1600/IMG_3607s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuLohl-h-8BTe9dRys60b2nN6syeMBFOpDTzOp-gnlG0BDi8EMFne7cYw_bdEyQnhuAIOKE-GRuzKxs78zYdxO5xfTqGnaYzVBgjWLgexZWFTL6OEnn3TQnQeEVaWzuK-p4zYjQSIwxPQ/s320/IMG_3607s.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
Finished both eyes up to match. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjmFPumTuLwuUbJJ9MJRZc6jDkgQorOYGM77SCnz4K_a4tenZOX2Li7NTXPG4WSstRyQyiCu5Pu1CwWkWpIymwsP5SOCKazvAM0B5o6ljJ4TdDEMqY8Xg-y5Qu-1nq1UeJy9nRe8bG6P8/s1600/IMG_3608s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjmFPumTuLwuUbJJ9MJRZc6jDkgQorOYGM77SCnz4K_a4tenZOX2Li7NTXPG4WSstRyQyiCu5Pu1CwWkWpIymwsP5SOCKazvAM0B5o6ljJ4TdDEMqY8Xg-y5Qu-1nq1UeJy9nRe8bG6P8/s320/IMG_3608s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Added eyelashes, just some light black ones, but no eyebrows this time. I also painted a black line between the lips to help give it a little depth, but there's only so much that can be done on a flat face.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIp9uOrGNqdEhIdKd6ZnDffXYQ-pNhdt-yvCP2tPMhc-FBomA2gMvBTllpu11UiwjnEOOr9j2lEI-YpPmQsDrLp5WnujYqWrFgSXP8Q83rPb9F0n9ZhvsA1uW0YqP40jIPNB2a0YjCLbU/s1600/IMG_3609s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIp9uOrGNqdEhIdKd6ZnDffXYQ-pNhdt-yvCP2tPMhc-FBomA2gMvBTllpu11UiwjnEOOr9j2lEI-YpPmQsDrLp5WnujYqWrFgSXP8Q83rPb9F0n9ZhvsA1uW0YqP40jIPNB2a0YjCLbU/s320/IMG_3609s.jpg" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
I almost forgot to do the little shinies in the eyes, but she's all done now! And the finished doll looks like...<br />
<br />

<br />
Next a little color, I was trying to go with something a little bird like. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUXtdpsr6k0rdEStuWky-UgQb0IWHTPlygrB2veP49RSkmv8TmtbHYa9sM_f5JzKORV835eKPZL2KsMUIRrcTs5WufxcKD8m44lkJXEtC1pKz67lxuxymgR_tp3I5HcOiKYMAuN2Ux4dU/s1600/IMG_3401s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUXtdpsr6k0rdEStuWky-UgQb0IWHTPlygrB2veP49RSkmv8TmtbHYa9sM_f5JzKORV835eKPZL2KsMUIRrcTs5WufxcKD8m44lkJXEtC1pKz67lxuxymgR_tp3I5HcOiKYMAuN2Ux4dU/s320/IMG_3401s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
More color. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtmTBpWGtZMRBUeTl5LJY67PzQsbfh1mwqdCM8lM40ow5Eokhlv0RwMs240wtZyVvq2Uk-bNxu7xs24FkDLGZO4rXG1MIXkhQ9zfHJMWWUznnMQEs7eHf4eu2QemiZUNT0fgy3rttlrm0/s1600/IMG_3403s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtmTBpWGtZMRBUeTl5LJY67PzQsbfh1mwqdCM8lM40ow5Eokhlv0RwMs240wtZyVvq2Uk-bNxu7xs24FkDLGZO4rXG1MIXkhQ9zfHJMWWUznnMQEs7eHf4eu2QemiZUNT0fgy3rttlrm0/s320/IMG_3403s.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<br />
Even more color ^^; At this point I thought I had messed everything up and this face up was going to be a disaster, but kept going anyways.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgieFmXhTA_ERPIiKhbNoiPF2TcmeBKw7m8-umrmQeS9LCa4Skbko_hVLd-ZjoRJPK-r1Afl145q3eidnP-w5b5PC0dkLvoPD75qIg_KkCk7nGSlINBdaLQCeBm_EuXkUcLsdccWQKf1TI/s1600/IMG_3404s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgieFmXhTA_ERPIiKhbNoiPF2TcmeBKw7m8-umrmQeS9LCa4Skbko_hVLd-ZjoRJPK-r1Afl145q3eidnP-w5b5PC0dkLvoPD75qIg_KkCk7nGSlINBdaLQCeBm_EuXkUcLsdccWQKf1TI/s320/IMG_3404s.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<br />
Paint the whites of the eyes. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Another layer of white on the eyes, and some black details in the nostrils and corners of the mouth. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCK_CqoMkRBcaQtbChmlfKZfD5n5oOnhy0L6GU6YxY7rkznpiloTOrB2RYlDpaKrMR5zfSKFLLroJXM-MGs-9X4o6Rg-dsZ_mu9Wo1I955mn-T7fVze1HBoHr18B7crXLo3pVHu9dW4Dc/s1600/IMG_3406s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCK_CqoMkRBcaQtbChmlfKZfD5n5oOnhy0L6GU6YxY7rkznpiloTOrB2RYlDpaKrMR5zfSKFLLroJXM-MGs-9X4o6Rg-dsZ_mu9Wo1I955mn-T7fVze1HBoHr18B7crXLo3pVHu9dW4Dc/s320/IMG_3406s.jpg" width="309" /></a></div>
<br />
Black eyeliner, red water line, and white outline. I didn't do black eyeliner on the bottom lid since I wanted to keep her a little natural looking, not too much make up. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Painted her iris color. <br />

A quick initial blend with the eyes. <br />

Obitsus are funny little things, especially without clothes! But they can be a lot of fun, and their lower prices can make them a lot of fun for customizations that you wouldn't want to do on a $500+ doll. I like using them a lot for character customizations, making them in to little fan made dolls from series that I like. For $50~ and a little bit of work you can actually have a nice little doll, even if it isn't technically a 'bjd' and isn't allowed on Den of Angels. <br />

<br />
I got this MUdoll little apple Ara head on a whim (it was $20 from
JunkySpot), it’s not the greatest thing though. It is made of resin,
but it came with some flashing in the eye wells still (that means very thin pieces of resin left over from the casting process). Not a huge deal
but not everyone can fix that on their own, and in my opinion it would have made the doll look bad when painted over the uneven areas. <br />
<br />
I was pleasantly surprised to find that it comes with a magnetic head cap though, that makes it so much easier with such a small head, and I haven't had any trouble with the head cap falling off on its own. Not to mention that the inside of the head is quite spacious, making eye positioning much easier.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="caption" style="margin-top: 0px;">
The body I got is unfortunately too small, I for some reason got 21cm bodies when these should be on 27cm ones. With such a small doll 6cm can make all the difference! Maybe next time I make an order I'll splurge a little more and get a new body. The head really just doesn't fit on the 21cm neck, whoops!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXo3wGNCV5IGbBw4NHIJf5sRKEWwV9l60MZYKyFBaCudL06oG_o2JS3ReYHQmo06OWv3TOqB9M5MHohI-6cAek5rTGO6JMr2M1p8Pwekbko37eWgqTML0hTn1UsBKBmsB2dkaqPnZ_o4/s1600/IMG_3265s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXo3wGNCV5IGbBw4NHIJf5sRKEWwV9l60MZYKyFBaCudL06oG_o2JS3ReYHQmo06OWv3TOqB9M5MHohI-6cAek5rTGO6JMr2M1p8Pwekbko37eWgqTML0hTn1UsBKBmsB2dkaqPnZ_o4/s320/IMG_3265s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I got it painted up pretty
nicely, but the resin is really thin in some places. You can see it looks like bruising on the temples the resin is so thin. I might be able to airbrush it a little, just to give some extra opacity in those areas and the bruising effect would go away, but that's a lot of trouble.<br />
<br />
<br />
With a wig the thin spots won’t be so noticeable, but I don’t know that I’d buy
another. The styling reminds me a lot of the old Rasendou head that I
have though, very sharp angles and smooth planes, not a very refined
sculpt.<br />

Originally I saw The Cinch, a high end expensive home binding machine. It had great reviews but the price was more than I had to spend on a fun little thing (it sells for between $65 and $110, depending where you buy it). It has a lot of options and looked very easy to use.<br />
<br />
Through some research I found many scrabooking communities, since they are the main audience for at home binding. I found a lot of people asking if they should get the Bind-It-All or the Cinch, and surprisingly there was no consensus! People liked both of them a lot, and that brought me to Zutter's page.<br />
<br />
The Bind-It-All, version 2, is what they sell new for $60, better than the price of the Cinch, but still an investment. At the time though, I was lucky enough to see that at the bottom of their page they were still selling their version 1 of the Bind-It-All. It didn't have all the features of the version 2, but for $30 I certainly couldn't complain. So on a whim, I ordered one along with some metal rings for the binding and all together it came out just under $50.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6bSRSNI35JA0Zl441dFFLf0ZSDH1flmoDnbKJph8CX2-CEwgW-PiiikDgc-zFCp9qj83SL8ITymu6Jk_NwKuvJCaVlPkJtl-edhkJvwE6fnvSl4AkNNUPN1D_DtpnQbuy27-4AX1yWtE/s1600/IMG_2786s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6bSRSNI35JA0Zl441dFFLf0ZSDH1flmoDnbKJph8CX2-CEwgW-PiiikDgc-zFCp9qj83SL8ITymu6Jk_NwKuvJCaVlPkJtl-edhkJvwE6fnvSl4AkNNUPN1D_DtpnQbuy27-4AX1yWtE/s320/IMG_2786s.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a very reasonably sized machine, which was one complaint about the Cinch, that it took up a lot of space. It's light and although it looks a little confusing at first, if you just follow the little instructions book that it comes with it's incredibly easy to figure out its functions. <br />

<br />
It took me a little doing to get the holes in the right places, if you're doing less than six holes I found it a little tricky to get everything even. I also had to punch half the pages at a time, and the two cards at the same time. The Bind-It-All V1 has a fairly limited width that it can punch through, which it looks like the Cinch can accommodate more thickness with less effort pushing on the handle. <br />

The wires are pretty cheap, so I got some cute pink ones. You just hook them through... <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiel4iTyAkUPHxo9Eb_SzYF8yZe17Vu60c3bny_iYC7uNRT_T6_9ZGWhFG8mDuwFRcfTpBPuCmaotnJQPaY0vHuncYXwgv9FUeR5-TLvgHiqFhVfKLzjqfaWWdesEydmlE5FMgaYMfb5z8/s1600/IMG_2800s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiel4iTyAkUPHxo9Eb_SzYF8yZe17Vu60c3bny_iYC7uNRT_T6_9ZGWhFG8mDuwFRcfTpBPuCmaotnJQPaY0vHuncYXwgv9FUeR5-TLvgHiqFhVfKLzjqfaWWdesEydmlE5FMgaYMfb5z8/s320/IMG_2800s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Put the wires in the machine, and clamp them shut! It's the most fun part for me, I like doing it, and it makes a nice professional little set of rings. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And all done! I like it a lot, it's fun to make little notebooks and I'm sure you could make much larger things too. As for usefulness? Not as useful as I thought it would be, so I'm glad I only spent $30 on this one. If you think you would like making your own spiral notebooks though it's great, and I'm sure scrabookers love it :)Dottiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08633189250961710047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-745948288259378914.post-46932762683774509832012-12-02T14:36:00.002-05:002012-12-02T14:36:44.850-05:00Book Binding!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A long time ago now I made myself a sketchbook out of pokemon cards, and although it wasn't anything special, it really got me in to the idea of making my own sketch books.<br />
<br />
I've always been fairly dissatisfied with store bought ones, only because I don't tend to prefer carrying around something that seemed very 'sterile' and not like me. Even if you tape something over the cover it didn't always feel like 'mine'. By making my own sketch books I really feel connected and proud of it, even if the drawings inside aren't that great x)<br />
<br />
I ordered all this paper from DickBlick.com<br />
<br />
Their prices I found to be good, and they had a pretty good selection of decorative and hand made papers. They took me in with a free shipping offer if I ordered over a certain amount, which was nice because some of the paper I ordered was over sized for normal shipping options. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3pRw88OWcdQdTGJA00vXKZ21sI2YLLJrA8-FLHRoY5ZKzElYWsSUSkZTH_l1c3ZJmciPbvM6KnUvKbCbRBqOHPTLfghvmbhByfUwrdaPApyEzHl6Kq0MLKHPzJLlJycDEAPr8lgUM08I/s1600/IMG_2744s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3pRw88OWcdQdTGJA00vXKZ21sI2YLLJrA8-FLHRoY5ZKzElYWsSUSkZTH_l1c3ZJmciPbvM6KnUvKbCbRBqOHPTLfghvmbhByfUwrdaPApyEzHl6Kq0MLKHPzJLlJycDEAPr8lgUM08I/s320/IMG_2744s.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I got taken in by a listing for 1lb of assorted paper for $9, thinking it might be nice to put inside the covers, and some of them will definitely work! There's a good assortment of weights and colors.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNFNPnb3pKQokIMmA7cY9mMHI_sadur2oWwG29JWLjgR3e5p0sOwqP5b-lv-qHMDyvUz2L-Sk612FV97jQLQebkzVDh29FUUzv2n72A1DgS6cDchBELoVk9X-jWFwUQ0EN1L5_sJ8S-Rs/s1600/IMG_2751s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNFNPnb3pKQokIMmA7cY9mMHI_sadur2oWwG29JWLjgR3e5p0sOwqP5b-lv-qHMDyvUz2L-Sk612FV97jQLQebkzVDh29FUUzv2n72A1DgS6cDchBELoVk9X-jWFwUQ0EN1L5_sJ8S-Rs/s320/IMG_2751s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought some smaller packs of hand made paper to use for pages. They have the natural deckle edge that hand made paper has, I think it will give the books a ton of character! It's cotton paper, and came in so many colors I couldn't help but but a few different kinds, I'm excited to try making a book with black pages. They were about $2.50 for a pack of five.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1xarQx8NGu9eLu8PAV4HuOk_Wj8Q7fzFyxk3aME5V514SrmtxdmBWMBtIuiUFz8NKi4fbj_pbd3aPZjAYIgkx64SSbuwlTnC4Va0xq6E4ylcLkn6NA-YCzV2WAmHD4zTq-WZaUVDxo4k/s1600/IMG_2757s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="197" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1xarQx8NGu9eLu8PAV4HuOk_Wj8Q7fzFyxk3aME5V514SrmtxdmBWMBtIuiUFz8NKi4fbj_pbd3aPZjAYIgkx64SSbuwlTnC4Va0xq6E4ylcLkn6NA-YCzV2WAmHD4zTq-WZaUVDxo4k/s320/IMG_2757s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These are all the large sheets of paper that I got. The big pages are so expensive, but almost incomparable to the small ones. The prints are just great, some using especially thick ink that it's almost like it's embossed. My photo doesn't show it well, but the teal and blue papers have gold paint on them and shines in the light.<br />
<br />
I like it all so much, I don't even feel like I want to use it for anything x)Dottiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08633189250961710047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-745948288259378914.post-90918146508482113692012-11-15T15:26:00.001-05:002012-11-15T15:26:30.163-05:00Toralei PaintingProgress photos of a Toralei I painted today!<br />

My solution for the moth eaten warp was to just take about an inch off the side, so I lost 10~ ends, but it was worth it to still be able to use the warp. My mother joked that it had upset me so much, she was just going to go down there and cut the warp off, I did not find that funny x_x</div>

I finished up the last weaving that had some broken ends in it and started a new one! This one I'm just using a variegated yarn so the weaving goes super fast when I don't have to switch colors. I really like how it looks! </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0pvQizzEXVHcUGvBR_oTsetTmQrZ1bEeoKvl1jRh5p2ELm14t-OHxGMCpdW78YK1xwu1LfgYj36GC7QwfrljsgQ3Lbzx55Ez4mJvMIKdpRNPGE89gOA_9dbZOPRYyIqAd1UurJhou55k/s1600/warp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0pvQizzEXVHcUGvBR_oTsetTmQrZ1bEeoKvl1jRh5p2ELm14t-OHxGMCpdW78YK1xwu1LfgYj36GC7QwfrljsgQ3Lbzx55Ez4mJvMIKdpRNPGE89gOA_9dbZOPRYyIqAd1UurJhou55k/s320/warp.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It looks like a moth took a big bite out of my warp in the time it took me to get my basement work room back in order. I'm guessing this only looks really bad to people that weave, but it's really bad. It goes through several layers of the warp, so a few of my ends are essentially chopped into pieces which really sucks!<br />
<br />
I can finish the scarf that I have on the loom now at around 60" without having to mess around adding new ends, but I don't know quite what to do with what will be left.<br />
<br />
Augh, it's so frustrating to have broken ends, I just hate having to deal with it T_T<br />

Tatting is a single line that you have to work with, but the line has rules, it needs to touch itself every so often, it can be misshapen and just in general it is not as flexible in shape as other forms of fiber work.<br />
<br />
Bobbin lace can be whatever two dimensional shape it wants! You just have to make a pattern in the shape that you want. I'm not going to pretend to know what I'm doing though so... This project may end up like crap!<br />

Again this was one that I was uncertain how much I was going to like it as a yarn, but was blown away when I finished! <br />
<br />
I guess I'm a little used to clay. Sometimes in ceramics, a piece will never look any better than it does when it's still wet clay. As soon as you see it fired it's turned into something else entirely, and it's not always good.<br />

This yarn is by far the most soft that I've made so far, cashmere is so good x)<br />

It's a way of creating lace, which is why I learned to tat, and is a pretty antiquated technique these days. So much so that I had trouble finding much instruction on the internet.<br />
<br />
I got a book called 'Beginners Guide to Bobbin Lace' to get me started, and a set of 24 bobbins. The bobbins were about $15 for the pack off of amazon and I thought 'Oh that'll be more than I ever need!'. The funny thing about bobbin lace is the sheer number of bobbins needed. It looks fun and interesting in pictures, but when you have it in front of you all you can think is what a terrible mistake you've made with your life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjun1drUIOe15KDlXBN7K41SvSfnogxS_CBbBOruvNJpd6aHSwNeKv2kbAwvUHF87-XVjb6lTcLmrDS1qSuvAByuRj1NnqcHLQZWWeAkKHrtufZ1w2yy6brKsQfsbMVlBlp2RnPqYZRH6A/s1600/tumblr_m8r1ckPZ1q1r26gkzo1_1280.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjun1drUIOe15KDlXBN7K41SvSfnogxS_CBbBOruvNJpd6aHSwNeKv2kbAwvUHF87-XVjb6lTcLmrDS1qSuvAByuRj1NnqcHLQZWWeAkKHrtufZ1w2yy6brKsQfsbMVlBlp2RnPqYZRH6A/s320/tumblr_m8r1ckPZ1q1r26gkzo1_1280.jpg" width="229" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I made the pillow out of some leftover packaging foam, a bucket lid, and some fabric. But any kind of solid foam pillow will work. It doesn't even have to be round.<br />
<br />
<br />
The first few patterns in the book I found to be quite easy, and simple to understand. A few patterns in I got very confused though, and had to seek help through youtube. I still don't consider myself very good, but if you're interested in trying it I do have some comforting news! First, there are only two movements: cross or twist. Every single stitch is a different variant of crossing and twisting. The second bit of good news is that you only work with two pairs at a time, usually moving one pair across the line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh15utoY4KcmKMJQ6yiwemvC0uzWXHqvmFVy_tLGb-9xJW9Dp-Emt4PklggT6P4c_7tjwD0wHC2Cb3QC2e4mCFoZamf2uL5FUbuf3D4bWWR_k_Jn_YzKcBGKqRTEUYqLRV5Z455NCbKNoY/s1600/tumblr_m8r1ckPZ1q1r26gkzo2_1280.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh15utoY4KcmKMJQ6yiwemvC0uzWXHqvmFVy_tLGb-9xJW9Dp-Emt4PklggT6P4c_7tjwD0wHC2Cb3QC2e4mCFoZamf2uL5FUbuf3D4bWWR_k_Jn_YzKcBGKqRTEUYqLRV5Z455NCbKNoY/s320/tumblr_m8r1ckPZ1q1r26gkzo2_1280.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Keep in mind that in my photos the bobbins are NOT in any kind of order. If I were still working on the piece they would all be spread out flat and kept in order. As they are I tied off the ends and just let the bobbins hang while I took photos. <br />

Shockingly, once it was all spun I LOVED it, it's so soft and shiny. I would consider buying more of this fiber!<br />

It doesn't look it but it's actually two ply, I hadn't gotten the hang of the amount of twist yet (I'm still not sure that I have it...)!<br />

This fiber was so pretty, I couldn't wait to work with it. It's a black with bits of jewel tone blue and pink throughout it, it really just sparkled as a fiber.<br />

Having a lazy kate built into my spinning wheel makes it SO easy to make two ply yarn! I love plying, it's like magic :)<br />

I had been looking for months for a deal on one off of craigslist, but every time I was too late and was getting really bummed every time I missed one.<br />
<br />
I picked one out and they got me a Kromski Minstrel unfinished. So I stained and sealed it, then assembled and here it is! I absolutely love it, I don't think I could ever go back to a drop spindle.<br />

Added more blush to the cheeks, lips, nostrils and corners of lips. The Monster High dolls don't have very deeop details in their sculpts, so I like to brush a little black pastel in those areas to give them the appearance of being deeper. <br />

Finishing touches, I gave her some really subtle freckles. Freckles can be difficult to get to look right, but you just have to remember to work with transparent paints and don't go for 'uniform' spacing. <br />

All sealed, glossed, and with rhinestones put into her eyes! I didn't realize until I was finished how much she looks like Flame Princess from Adventure time.<br />

It was a black pot, and the designs on the pot were so intricate, but they were created using a matte/glossy surface. It was also completely black, I love it but it was $450 and I just couldn't do it :(<br />
<br />
I got home and got to thinking that maybe I could make myself something similar! So for now I'm working on a little test piece to see how everything goes. If it goes well I'll get another clay that doesn't have grog in it, which is not ideal for burnishing. I would also do well to figure out a way to smoke fire to get it black!<br />

I just coil built a small pot. If only I could throw! <br />

Smoothed out fairly well. <br />

Final smoothing and the stone I'll be burnishing with. <br />

<br />
Augh, I forgot that burnishing just exacerbates any lumpy areas on a pot. At least I learned how much easier oil makes it to burnish! Before I only knew to use a little water and it took so long, but the oil! Oh gosh, it just went on so easy and the burnishing was a dream. I'll need to do one more round before it's ready to fire, but so far it's been good!<br />
<br />
So far though this little test gave me so many ideas for wanting to make miniature pots. The one here is only about three inches tall. I want to make tiny red figure pottery.Dottiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08633189250961710047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-745948288259378914.post-16525605392607862602012-09-26T18:20:00.004-04:002012-09-26T18:21:19.999-04:00I'm going to try to get back into this!Oh no, I've been gone forever :( I don't know what happened to me, I keep saying 'I've been really busy' but can't come up with any one thing to point to for why I've been so busy. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no excuse!<br />
<br />
What have I been doing then? Most a lot of Monster High customs!<br />

I have a bunch more, but they're all on my <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sour_dotz/" target="_blank">flickr </a>if you want to see all of my customs in one place.<br />
<br />
Another thing I've been doing is that I won a HUGE lot of yarn off of ebay!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It was 150lbs of yarn. It's all organized by color now, but I need another bookcase for all of it! I'll never have to worry about not having a matching color for something again.<br />
<br />
Anyways, I'll really try to keep up with this again, just taking pictures of whatever I work on day to day.Dottiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08633189250961710047noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-745948288259378914.post-79430154886772768272012-07-07T13:39:00.003-04:002012-08-09T20:24:17.538-04:00Sollux Horns - Casting on PorcelainIt's been a while since I've worked on these! The reason being that my basement is being torn up, and I have to do all of my ceramic work there since it's so messy. I took a day and managed to make a work space for myself though, so here goes!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIT7aSislMlFEdbjWpqNCDbbeNk4FM2i8lWnbLD0vVJj2vHP99MA-cmf-qCHkMmYfpRr0S2bLybl0NtlrvC8m2qpj4trFdPa_7Bodbcpv3Bh4qXw-Epz94K4XjrfknRSKXd8v1_cfp31U/s1600/IMG_1608s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIT7aSislMlFEdbjWpqNCDbbeNk4FM2i8lWnbLD0vVJj2vHP99MA-cmf-qCHkMmYfpRr0S2bLybl0NtlrvC8m2qpj4trFdPa_7Bodbcpv3Bh4qXw-Epz94K4XjrfknRSKXd8v1_cfp31U/s320/IMG_1608s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Supplies! I have a ton of Ultra Chic porcelain slip left over from my individual study in college, so I'm going to use what I have lying around. Other than that I have a strainer, an old coffee pot to pour with, and a mold! I have to strain the porcelain before using it to make sure it pours smoothly. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvAKuUa-iiGzl-W538blkafa2cYQvBuG2qb0yywioJr9e3pWTtGQ2gx1udvc2cxxwhLVK6VSwhLAIf_BDVY73hKlbQJTIX9v2NDKQ3v6KPbrW8EHilRiK2DROYBUvZJVBdCkUS350Ojsg/s1600/IMG_1609s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvAKuUa-iiGzl-W538blkafa2cYQvBuG2qb0yywioJr9e3pWTtGQ2gx1udvc2cxxwhLVK6VSwhLAIf_BDVY73hKlbQJTIX9v2NDKQ3v6KPbrW8EHilRiK2DROYBUvZJVBdCkUS350Ojsg/s320/IMG_1609s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
All poured into the mold! My mold is all dry right now so it's going to cast pretty quickly. So that I can gauge when I need to pour the excess porcelain slip out I poured some on top. Once that little extra bit on top is dry I can pour the liquid center out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB5r0n5geGGekjemuVB0PwCFUdPLRk2hzFmoa1BYmbcSXJNWbt7wX9u-J-55oewYlRbRfiKX0e0zmwXW83gAoZarNEhliGFWkN0hKnl0b484I-5he4r0Kf_KnthOctU0dCIhVs8RVzdWU/s1600/IMG_1610s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB5r0n5geGGekjemuVB0PwCFUdPLRk2hzFmoa1BYmbcSXJNWbt7wX9u-J-55oewYlRbRfiKX0e0zmwXW83gAoZarNEhliGFWkN0hKnl0b484I-5he4r0Kf_KnthOctU0dCIhVs8RVzdWU/s320/IMG_1610s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Letting the porcelain drip out! I didn't think about it when making the mold, but it's a little awkward to cast both horns at once since they're spaced just so that they won't pour back into the slip jar. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLjrJZ40DmobLv4a0J9McRZ4YvLRkQGDgll6d1DINN4Eyw_DIJetoTwuaGF_nunfKhZVme_CQ8E5lbaA62V7SpMzMTA2iVTtHjYHl2pQRL2dZyww96ohLprX7a-NmnvlERWpRzkFVfyLw/s1600/IMG_1611s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLjrJZ40DmobLv4a0J9McRZ4YvLRkQGDgll6d1DINN4Eyw_DIJetoTwuaGF_nunfKhZVme_CQ8E5lbaA62V7SpMzMTA2iVTtHjYHl2pQRL2dZyww96ohLprX7a-NmnvlERWpRzkFVfyLw/s320/IMG_1611s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After they're all poured out here I have a shell of slip inside my mold, woo! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTd_xH9GR53l8Pdav7IIGH3ugsSkaeRvSekxfTXkMT0AdxTv-GpDcDVKpVNaEWqGcVbgKjlRWqSYVqtx37rQ4g3lRyRmwtJYFAXJeJEdU0NpXY3-wTyGuQBCJUKEX2VTSedlwp8iLxJc0/s1600/IMG_1613s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTd_xH9GR53l8Pdav7IIGH3ugsSkaeRvSekxfTXkMT0AdxTv-GpDcDVKpVNaEWqGcVbgKjlRWqSYVqtx37rQ4g3lRyRmwtJYFAXJeJEdU0NpXY3-wTyGuQBCJUKEX2VTSedlwp8iLxJc0/s320/IMG_1613s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After giving it some time for the porcelain to harden a little more in the mold I pull it apart. You know it's time to pull the mold apart either when it come apart without any pulling, or the porcelain starts to pull away from the edges. The porcelain shrinks a little as it dries.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxAKb9LRNBIiRGHrjWHY2-cH5Xd014NZCgSJqF5JFHyVb9caIb_Z8e4p7oDH2XwX5as9EMqdqtKQAwxVBw6QXb0RFQWTus7J04FE6cFQ3HcpvwnQVKQmJZCJokbh2F0fV8idNnR7q7_4g/s1600/IMG_1617s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxAKb9LRNBIiRGHrjWHY2-cH5Xd014NZCgSJqF5JFHyVb9caIb_Z8e4p7oDH2XwX5as9EMqdqtKQAwxVBw6QXb0RFQWTus7J04FE6cFQ3HcpvwnQVKQmJZCJokbh2F0fV8idNnR7q7_4g/s320/IMG_1617s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Carefully pull it out of the mold. Be gentle, porcelain is very fragile before firing! <br />

<br />
Cut off the pour hole, it's junk.<br />

<br />
Lastly you clean up the seam lines a little, I drilled some holes so that I would have something to firmly attach them with. Firing comes next! I'm waiting until I have a few pairs to fire so that I'll have extras, and that may take another week or so since I have to wait until the mold is dry enough for me to cast more.Dottiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08633189250961710047noreply@blogger.com1
